Season of Sharing in Sarasota
From Terry Redman, president of the Friends of the Parks:
The Patterson Foundation sponsored a very successful Veterans Legacy Summit at the Sarasota National Cemetery and throughout Sarasota County in November.
Over 200 volunteers participated in this event honoring our military. Friends of Sarasota County Parks had Board members and other volunteers helping with the event because of the importance of the event to this community.
In the mail on November 29 was a check from the Patterson Foundation which was in appreciation of FOSCP’s efforts in volunteering and supplying a lot of the support equipment.
The volunteers that helped during the Veterans Legacy Summit have decided to donate the money from the Patterson Foundation to the Season of Sharing program. Donors are encouraged to share their commitment to giving on social media through the use of hashtags: #GivingTuesdays and #SeasonOfSharing. For more information, call 941-953-3000 or go to CFSarasota.org.
On Giving Tuesday, gifts made to the Season of Sharing campaign will be matched dollar for dollar by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, up to $100,000. Double the impact you make for families on the verge of homelessness in our community on Tuesday, December 2! Learn more and give here.
Season of Sharing
With your help, Season of Sharing helps individuals and families from Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto counties who are on the verge of homelessness to stay in their homes. Funds may be used for rent or mortgage, utility bills, child care, transportation, food vouchers or other crucial expenses.
Season of Sharing is a 15-year community-wide fundraising partnership created by The Herald-Tribune Media Group and The Community Foundation of Sarasota County. Now, with additional media partners and support from you, the Season of Sharing Campaign is growing beyond what any community of our size has supported.
This year, The Patterson Foundation has graciously offered to match $100,000 for every $500,000 raised by the community, as well as contribute $100,000 when the campaign receives gifts from 4000 unique donors. Additionally, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County is committing $100,000 to match every donation dollar for dollar that comes in on National Giving Tuesday, December 2nd.
Last year, thanks to you. More than $2 million was raised through nearly 3,700 donors, which will help nearly 2,200 individuals and families stay in their homes. Together, we are making a difference.
