A Grant Deadline to Meet
The Patterson Foundation has offered the Friends a generous grant opportunity, if we can match it. If the Friends can raise $48,000,Patterson will chip in an additional $24,000, to be applied to a business development program.
The success of this program will lead to the installation of shade structures at athletic fields throughout the county, protecting our kids and their families from skin cancer.
This brief video explains the plan and goal:
Shade is Good
The first step is to qualify for the grant – and the deadline is year’s end. Carol is leading the initiative – more here.

Exotic Mushrooms, Local Honey
The repertoire at the Phillippi Farmhouse Market keeps expanding! Visit Wednesdays from 9-2 pm for the freshest food. Bring your dog!

The Englewood Farmers Market is also open every Thursday for the Season, 9-2 pm.

Changing of the Board
A new board was chosen at the October board meeting of the Friends. For the coming year, Andy Gerberich will be President, and Mary Mack (left) will be the new V.P. Info on the entire board can be found here.

Whopping Generosity
Sincere thanks to all who gave during the  24-Hour Giving Challenge, held in Sarasota Sept. 1-2. The overall event raised a whopping $6.67 million for the Community, and was the largest online giving event in Florida’s history, according to the Giving Partner. The Friends benefited to the tune of $4,692.73, said Terry Redman, the pleased president of the Friends.
Autumn Ripening
Quite a variety of walks, talks, outdoor learning opportunities and bicycling events happening in November. There is a Fall Flowers Walk in Lemon Bay, for example. And workshops, birding, spiders and rain barrels. They’re all here:
