Farm-to-Fork Dinner at the Edson Keith Mansion
On Sunday, November 15, beginning at 4:30 p.m., a farm-to-fork dinner will be held on the lawn of the Keith Farmhouse at Phillippi Estate Park. Featuring local foods, the dinner is aptly called “Palates and Palettes” because Mattison’s Catering will spotlight fresh produce from the Phillippi Farmhouse Market (a farmers market managed by FOSCP volunteers Grace and Fred Whitehouse) to create a 4-course dinner with wine pairings.
While guests mingle during the cocktail hour, they will enjoy watching the Light Chasers (plein air painters) and Master Artists of the Sun Coast paint on the Farmhouse lawn . Guests may buy “off the easel” as well as other paintings featured on the lawn. A percentage of the paintings sold will benefit the renovation of the Farmhouse.
Artist Marilyn Howard Flinn will be displaying and selling her painting of the Farmhouse entitled AMERICANA. The painting is so named because the window to the right of the porch features an American flag. Remember, in 1916, local young men volunteered to join the American forces during World War l, and every family who had someone serving in the war effort displayed a flag in their home’s front window.
Guests may step up onto the porches and peek in to see what needs yet to be done to get the Farmhouse completed. Once it is, the Interpretive Center on the first floor will open to the public free of charge to show visitors how the common man lived 100 years ago as the Sarasota community was just beginning. Greg Hall, architect for the renovation, will be on the porch to describe the process of renovating the Keith Farmhouse.
There will also be a Silent Auction, music by Sal Garcia, and the opportunity to contribute to the fund-raising effort to restore the first building erected on the estate.
Tickets are $100.00 per guest and may be purchased on line at www.mattisons.com or call 941-921-3400. For more information, please call 941-316-1309. Phillippi Estate Park is located at 5500 South Tamiami Trail in Sarasota and is the home of the Phillippi Chapter of FOSCP.
